Despite rhetoric to the contrary, ‘protectionism’ — favoring local industry through tariffs on non-local imports — will drastically increase in the next few years. We should push for the deconstruction of global interconnected business networks, which are inherently unmanageable, and cannot be made safe, sustainable or resilient.
‘American makers of pipes used for oil wells are being harmed by a surge of Chinese imports, a federal agency ruled in a decision that may lead to tariffs of as much as 99 percent on $2.6 billion in goods. The International Trade Commission ruled in favor of companies including United States Steel, Wheatland Tube Company, and the American operations of Evraz Group. The ruling may be a precursor for a number of trade complaints against China as the contracting economy prompts American companies to seek protection.’
sigh. its the same here in germany… the current economic crisis is brings back something we all thought done.
